About the Event
Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) begins this Sunday, November 1st; while there are some IRL ways to celebrate (like this one at National Portrait Gallery), DDLMDC is taking its Día de los Muertos Benefit Festival online this year from 3-7pm ET.
Viewers will learn all about the Mexican holiday and its various traditions, and will dive into the importance of unpacking grief. There will also be an activism component, with tips and resources on how to give back, voting encouragement and more.
In addition, there’ll be some super cool programming involved including music, panels, a “La Catrina” skeleton makeup tutorial, dance performances, workshops on altar building and preparing traditional Mexican cuisine, live art and more.
While the event is technically free, it is a benefit, so definitely consider making a donation (or even becoming a sponsor) if you have the means to do so. 100% of the proceeds will go to reuniting children separated from their families due to Immigration Reform, and to providing assistance to children in marginalized communities in Mexico.
